Graphic design and visual communications.
Typically, when you think of a graphic designer, what comes to mind is an artist making a drawing or layout. Graphics go much further than that when it comes to graphic designing for business. “Graphic designers create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers,” according to the BoLS[*]. The one thing they left out was “problem solvers.”
We are problem solvers.
Through the process of thinking, we layout visual communications to solving a way to get a message across for website design, signage, publishing, marketing communications, and advertising.
Designers convey solutions through the use of typography, photography, and illustration.
The design field is synonymously a subset of “visual communications” and “communication design”, and the term “graphic design” covers both disciplines.
Now, in the digital age, I am also considered a funnel filler. My designing and problem-solving today consist of designing nurture emails, social media posts, and website calls-to-actions to help navigate buyers down the sales funnel is an exciting journey. – Dennis Romano
